Breno Guerbatin

Lecture: “Equities in Brazil — from ‘Too Risky’ to ‘Too Late’?”
Member of Studio Investimentos’ Investment Committee and co-portfolio manager of Studio FIC FIA, which returned 122.0% since its inception, at the end of 2009 (until the end of April 2017), contrasting with a loss for the Ibovespa Index of 3.7% during the same period. In 2009, Breno Guerbatin was a manager with TV Globo. From 2008 to 2009, he was an equity analyst and a member of the Managing Committee of BNY Mellon ARX. From 2005 to 2008, he was a partner and the Investment Officer of Brazil Energy, a private-equity boutique focused on energy and infrastructure. From 2002 to 2005, he was an investment analyst and a fund manager at Opportunity Asset Management. Breno Guerbatin graduated in Production Engineering from UFRJ and has a postgraduate Degree in Corporate Law from FGV-RJ.

Lecture: “Value Opportunities in Korea”
Co-founder and a Managing Partner of Petra Capital Management, whose Petra Korean Equity Strategy since inception (in September of 2009), has returned 14.9% annualized, net of all fees to investors. Chan Lee has over 19 years of investment experience in Korea, having focused on identifying and analyzing competitive companies with prices significantly discounted in relation to intrinsic value and special situations which can be subject to significant price volatility and may present great upside. Prior to co-founding Petra in 2009, he was Head of M&A at Hana Financial Investment. Chan Lee started his career in Finance as an M&A attorney in Korea. He received his BS in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley, where he was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, and his Juris Doctor degree from the UCLA School of Law.

Lecture: “Investing and Perception: What You See Is Not What You Get”
Fabio Alperowitch, CFA is a founding partner with FAMA Investimentos, an independent investment management firm founded in 1993 that focuses on small-cap stocks and private equity. The firm currently manages about R$ 1.3 billion — predominantly from universities, pension funds, and insurance companies — and has a return of 20.2% per year compounded for 23 years. Fabio Alperowitch graduated in Business Administration from Fundação Getulio Vargas and was awarded the CFA — Chartered Financial Analyst — designation.

Lecture: “Current Investment Cases”
Founding partner with Bogari Capital and manager of Bogari Value FIA, an equity fund that obtained from November 2006 (still as a Brazilian investment club) until the end of April, 2017 gains of approximately 1,926% (or 28.2% per year) — which contrast with the gain of, approximately, 67.4% of the Ibovespa index (or 5.0% per year) during the same period. Formerly, Flavio Sznajder was member of the Finance Committee with Telemar Participações, Investment Officer with Andrade Gutierrez Telecomunicações, member of the Investment Committee with infrastructure fund AG-Angra, member of the Board of Directors with TG Agro ethanol plant, member of the Board of Directors with Pegasus Telecom and senior associate with Booz-Allen & Hamilton and Gradus Management Consultant. He received a a B.S. in Engineering from PUC-RJ and an MSc in Business Administration from Coppead-UFRJ.
Henrique Teixeira Alvares

Lecture: “In Search of Full Potential: Strategy and Execution Alignment”
Founding partner with NEO Investimentos and member of its Executive and Private Equity Investing Committees. Henrique Alvares lead the private equity division of NEO Investimentos since the firm’s inception in 2003, until he became leader of its holdings division, in 2012. He started his career at Citibank in 1988. In 1994, he became an M&A associate with Banco Patrimônio and, in 1997, he became coordinator of the bank’s capital markets division. In 1999, after the acquisition of Banco Patrimônio by Chase Manhattan, he additionally became the head of structured-loan issuance and of securitization in Brazil. Henrique Alvarez is a member of the Board of Directors of Livraria Cultura S.A., of Marelli Móveis Corporativos S.A., and of CVC S.A., as well as member of ANBIMA’s Board of Regulation and Best Practices for Investment Funds. He graduated in Economics from the Faculdade de Economia e Administração at Universidade de São Paulo (USP).
Jonathan Tepper

Lecture: “Making Sense of Global Macro — Variant Insights”
Founding principle of Variant Perception, a leading independent investment research provider that equips with actionable investment advice some of the world’s most sophisticated banks, hedge funds, family offices, endowments, corporations, and investors. The Variant Perception team is an eclectic mix of veterans of Wall Street, NASA, and the Navy Seals. Before founding Variant Perception, Jonathan Tepper worked at Lehman Brothers, SAC Capital, and as a proprietary trader at Bank of America. On the topics of the sovereign debt crisis and unconventional monetary policy, he co-authored, with John Mauldin, New York Times’ bestsellers Endgame and Code Red. Jonathan Tepper was a Finalist for the 2012 Wolfson Economic Prize for his work A Primer on the Eurozone Breakup: Default, Exit and Devaluation as the Optimal Solution. He graduated with a BA with highest honors in Economics and History from the University of North Carolina, and a Master of Letters in Modern History from Oxford University, where he was a Rhodes Scholar.
Luis Felipe Amaral

Head of fund management and member of the Investment Committee at Equitas Investimentos. Luis Felipe Amaral has been Equitas’ managing director since the firm’s inception, having initially worked at its Corporate Finance and Private Equity divisions. From 2001 to 2003, he worked at Lehman Brothers, in New York, with the structuring of leveraged buyout operations in various U.S. sectors. Between 1996 and 1997, he was a research analyst at Banco Crédit Agricole Indosuez, responsible for the Utilities, Auto Parts, Fertilizers, and Capital Goods sectors. From 1995 to 1996, he was a consultant at Accenture. Luis Felipe Amaral was a member of the Board of Directors of Tecnisa S.A. from 2014 to 2016. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Escola de Engenharia Mauá and an MBA, with honors, from The University of Chicago.

Luiz Fernando Figueiredo is founding partner and CIO of Mauá Capital. Formerly, he was founding partner of Gávea Investimentos. From 1999 to 2003, he was a senior executive at Banco Central do Brasil, responsible for the DEMAB (Open Market Operations Department), the DEBAN (Department of Banking Operations and Payments System), and the DECEC (Department of Exchange and Foreign Capitals). He was partner and Treasury Director of Banco BBA. Luiz Fernando Figueiredo is a director at ANBIMA and a member of the Market Committee at the BM&FBOVESPA, and has been a director at AMEC. He graduated in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Finance, from FAAP.

He is responsible for the analysis team and is a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. With 13 years of professional experience, he was a partner at Quest Investimentos, where he was a stock analyst from 2008 to 2011. Formerly, he was a member of Santander’s team. Paulo Weickert graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina and, in 2010, was awarded the CFA — Chartered Financial Analyst — designation.

Pedro Franco Sales is manager of the Brazilian Equities strategy — and responsible for its analysis team — at Verde Asset Management. He joined Hedging-Griffo (currently Verde Asset Management) in 2005, where he became a partner in 2006 and an equity portfolio manager in 2009. He started his career in 1999, at JGP, as an equity analyst responsible for covering technology companies in global markets. Pedro Franco Sales graduated in Engineering from PUC-RJ.

Lecture: “High-Yield Debt Investing in the U.S.”
Tom Krasner, CFA, has spent over 25 years in fixed income, distressed debt and high-yield bonds. He has extensive experience in corporate restructurings, credit analysis, portfolio management, and workouts. Prior to co-founding Concise Capital with Mr. Koach, Mr. Krasner was Executive VP at Harch Capital Management, responsible for restructuring high yield bonds and bank loans. Previously, Mr. Krasner was a Principal and Portfolio Manager at Riverside Capital Advisers, co-managing the short-term high yield portfolio with Mr. Koach. Mr. Krasner began his career at John Alden Asset Management, a $4 billion life insurance company, where he ran a $250 million private placement portfolio. Tom Krasner holds a B.A. in Economics, English and Mathematical Sciences and a M.A. in Economics from Rice University. From 1996 to 1998 he was President of the CFA Society Miami. He has served on the boards of Birch Telecom, Doe Run Resources, FWT, Institutional Deposits Corporation, Nutritek, Sterling Chemicals, and Trism.
